While going for burial this morning I got an ugly experience on my way to Orlu via Omuma.
Between Omuma junction and Okporo along Mgbidi road something happened. Gunmen/IPOB blocked me and almost shot me if not for the intervention of their commander. They were up to 30 in number matching along that stretch of Mgbidi Orlu road, carrying AK 47 guns, daggers, cutlasses and even charms. Some rascals among them were insisting that something must be done to me, and that blood must flow, because government is killing their members while Priests are not talking to defend them. I was wearing soutane, though they still deliberated in my presence whether to shoot me or leave me. I was told that I would be judged right away as soon as the commander who is at the back arrives. After interrogating me and making their judgement, the commander pleaded with the hot headed gangsters among the pack, indicating I am not part of their mission for the day, that they were out to cause mayhem. His decision was that since I am a Priest, I should continue my journey to Orlu, and that no one should pull the trigger on me, all of them had guns and were looking exceptionally high. While I was preparing to run for my dear life a few of them were still threatening violence, but the commander stood his ground and instructed me to zoom off. I am grateful to God and also grateful to a local woman who from afar was shouting on top of her voice ‘obukwanu fada oo’ “obukwanu fada oo” .Despite an array of gun wielding men she was bold enough to shout in defence of a priest. My life like a bird escaped from the snare of the Fowler. I just thank God am alive telling this story. Anyone traveling along Mgbidi or Ihiala roads to Orlu should look for options.
Thanks.
Polycarp CMF.
