In his homily during his Pastoral visit to St. Peter Catholic Church, Chukuku, the Catholic Archbishop of Abuja, Most Rev. Ignatius Kaigama appealed to all religious adherents in Nigeria to pray for peace among the people of Mangu Local Government Area in Plateau State. He prayed that the word of God either from the Bible or Koran, should dwell in the heart of the perpetuators of this evil and cause them a change of heart.
“Please pray for the peace of the people Mangu Local Government Area in Plateau State. Many people are kidnapped daily and murdered, daily people’s properties are being destroyed and vandalized.
“We pray that the word of God we read and meditate on daily, either from the Bible or Koran, should dwell in the heart of the perpetuators of this evil and cause them a change of heart.”
At the Mass on Sunday, January 28, in St Peter Catholic Church, Chukuku, one of the newly created Pastoral Areas along the Kuje/Gwagwalada road in Abuja, the Archbishop, challenged the government to take decisive actions to curb insecurity in the country, rather than just consoling the victims and condemning act.
“There is is alot to be done by the government and the security operatives. Government should go beyond just condemning the act and consoling the victims, but should act decisively to put an end to it. The perpetuators of this act boast about it daily and nothing is done about it. As believers, the only weapon we have is prayers and we should not stop praying.”
As part of the pastoral activities carried out by the Archbishop during the visit was the commissioning of 525 lay faithful across the various parishes and pastoral units in the Archdiocese as Lectors, conferment of the sacrament of confirmation on 108 candidates in the pastoral area, the solemnization of the sacrament of Holy Matrimony on a couple and the blessing of a tabernacle for the new Church.
