Priests must be active but not partisan in politics, says Fr. John Bosco Ezehi
Padre Mike Umoh, CSN
In an interactive session of priests with Bishops at the on-going plenary of the Catholic Bishops Conference of Nigeria (CBCN) in Orlu Diocese, on Friday September 9, 2022, the President of the Nigeria Catholic Diocesan Priests Association (NCDPA), Very Rev. Fr. John Bosco Ezehi, urged all priests in Nigeria to engage positively in politics without being partisan. “On the part of priests, the problem facing us is not so much as to whether we priests are active or going to be active, because with the trend of things, we have no choice but to be active without being partisan.”
The President of Diocesan priests stressed that the present situation in the nation has made it compelling for priests to no longer sit on the fence. “The time calls for proper participation and guidance to avoid over-activism which is already manifesting itself on some platforms.”
Fr. Ezehi however appealed to the Bishops for guidance so that priests do not derail in this onerous task of forming and mobilising the people for participation.
While appreciating the Excellencies for their selfless leadership, he assured that the resolutions of the Bishops will form the crux of the agenda during the next national Annual General Meeting of the NCDPA scheduled for Calabar in October this year.
