This is a discussion that is going to take us a couple of days, to that end, I will like to begin with the easily noticed ones but hardly recognized
Prayer was a deeply ingrained habit for Archbishop Patrick Ebosele Ekpu, a way of life that became an integral part of his being. Despite any physical weakness, he remained committed to his daily routine, celebrating Mass with dedication and donning full vestments without fail. His devotion to prayer was remarkable and his spirituality was well interiorized.
Neatness was another hallmark of Archbishop Ekpu’s character, reflecting his graceful and refined personality. His natural handsomeness, his impeccable appearance, surroundings, and demeanour exuded elegance, far removed from ostentation.
Archbishop Ekpu’s life showed remarkable hope and resilience. Though his retirement plans were not strictly as he would have loved it to be, he never complained or lamented. Instead, he faced challenges with matchless grace, inspiring those around him.
A fulfilling day often culminates in a good evening. Archbishop Ekpu’s retirement, showed the beauty of days were spent at work and evenings well kept for rest. It was lived in ground style, attesting to his visionary approach to this. His life was a shining example of purpose and contentment.
True friends are precious, and Archbishop Ekpu cherished his relationships. He remembered birthdays, special occasions, and milestones, making each visit a celebration. His conversations were uplifting and joyful. If never ceased to pray for all the priests whom he ordained on the very days of their nativity and anniversary.
Archbishop Ekpu’s life was characterized by introspection and thoughtful silence. His calm demeanour, scarce words, and reflective nature commanded respect and admiration. He had a deafening silence and a voluminous calmness.
Knowing when to exit the stage is a rare discipline. Archbishop Ekpu’s transition from office was iconic, and his subsequent non-interference demonstrated remarkable humility and profound discipline.
Balancing family and professional life is crucial. Archbishop Ekpu honored his relatives while maintaining boundaries, ensuring his duties remained uncompromised.
Trust is valuable, and Ekpu’s trust in those who worked with him was superb. Despite no prior connections, he believed in them and gave them great and nice support throughout their lives with him.
Self-respect is ultimate decorum. Archbishop Ekpu embodied honour, valour, intelligence, and spirituality. His commitment to health reflected profound self-respect and his adherence to prescription birthed a new spirituality
Archbishop Ekpu passed on, on August 6, 2024, joining notable individuals who departed on this day: Alfred, Lord Tennyson (August 6, 1892), George Bernard Shaw (August 6, 1950), Helen Keller (August 6, 1968), Anissa Jones (August 6, 1976), Dom DeLuise (August 6, 2009), Abbey Lincoln (August 6, 2010), Marvin Hamlisch (August 6, 2012), Ralph Waite (August 6, 2014), Pete Fountain (August 6, 2016), and Richard F. Heck (August 6, 2015).
