FEAST OF THE DAY
December 8
SOLEMNITY OF THE IMMACULATE CONCEPTION OF THE BLESSED VIRGIN MARY
The Solemnity of the Immaculate Conception, celebrated on December 8, honors Mary as the woman preserved from original sin from the moment of her conception — chosen by God to be the pure vessel who would bear His Son. This mystery is not merely about privilege but purpose: Mary’s immaculate grace reflects God’s desire for all humanity to be restored to holiness.
Her “yes” at the Annunciation echoes across history as the perfect response to divine love. In her, we see what humanity was meant to be — fully open to God, unclouded by self. As the dawn of salvation, she becomes the New Eve, whose faith undid the disobedience of the first.
In this feast, we are invited to renew our own surrender to grace. Mary’s sinless heart reminds us that holiness is not perfection earned, but mercy received. She shows us that God’s light can still enter a world shadowed by sin — and that our “yes,” however small, can magnify the Lord.
“Rejoice, full of grace, the Lord is with you.”
— Luke 1:28
