TALK TO VOTES BEFORE YOU CAST THEM.
By Bishop Julius Yakubu Kundi.
Lamenting how for long politicians have not justified the reasons they were voted into political offices, Bishop Julius Kundi lampooned in no small measure. This happened at the dedication of St Williams Catholic church Kaura, an out station of St Francis parish Manchok.
Bishop’s homily was devoid of political scenario. It was during his appreciation remarks that he devoted time to address the situation of 2023 forthcoming election. He personified the voters card when he told politicians that “we will talk to our votes before we cast them”.
His lordship didn’t mince words in telling the political class how unfortunately they haven’t helped the teeming masses who trusted and believed in them but constantly betrayed them. On this score he encouraged that votes should not just be casted without saying frankly our earnest intentions.
Bishop Julius Kundi pursued this point up to the opening ceremony of a new convent in St Francis Manchok. There he said to few politicians who identified with the building project that this time around they should brace themselves for serious action. He continued by calling the political class to desist from taking the masses for granted.
POINTS TO NOTE
1-Delegates are our major problems. These guys are after their personal benefits and not for the common good.
2-There is little the masses can do before primaries. When delegates choose the wrong candidates the masses are left with no choice than to tag along.
3-There is the need to declare publicly the names of delegates so they are known. This will make them tread with caution.
4-Why in the first place should the delegates scout for money before performing their civic responsibility? They delegates go after the highest bidder rather than the right candidates. The system favours the few rich only.
5-Political parties should henceforth make efforts to choice credible delegates who in turn will choose credible political candidates so as to enable the public cast their votes to the right candidates.
Indeed now is the time to be serious with election in this country. It’s truly a decisive period for southern Kaduna people to rise up from their slumber and do good politics that will liberate people. The time is now and it’s apt to stamp our feet and say enough is enough. So let’s talk to our votes before we cast them.
