Rev. Fr. David Okolie
Dearest friends, the greatest challenge facing humanity today is the ILLUSION that the LAW that God has given us as a guide is IMPERFECT.
The above disposition has made a number of persons either to disregard the Commandments of God or even to openly denounce them and teach others to be doing the same. Unfortunately for those in the above category, they do not understand that the Commandments of God are *PERFECT* and we are also expected to obey them *ALWAYS.* Considering the above, the Catechism teaches:
At the beginning of the Sermon on the Mount Jesus issued a SOLEMN WARNING in which he presented God’s law, given on Sinai during the first covenant, in light of the grace of the New Covenant: Do not think that I have come to abolish the law or the prophets: I have come not to abolish but to fulfill… (cf. CCC n. 577).
๐๐ผAlso, obedience to the Commandments of God is a clear and concrete sign of oneโs love for God. Thus, Jesus affirms: โIf you love me, obey my commandments” (cf. n. 2083, Jn 14:15, Lk 10:25-28). For the sake of those who have forgotten, these are the COMMANDMENTS of God: 1.You shall not have strange gods before me, 2. You shall not take the name of the Lord your God in vain, 3. Remember to keep the Sabbath (Sunday) holy, 4. Honour your father and your mother, 5. You shall not kill, 6. You shall not commit adultery, 7. You shall not steal, 8. You shall not bear false witness against your neighbour, 9. You shall not covet (desire) your neighbour’s wife, 10. You shall not covet (desire) your neighbour’s good (cf. CCC nos 2084-2557, Exod 20:1-17).
Finally, beloved friends, it is not really IMPOSSIBLE to obey the above Commandments because, โthrough Jesus Christ, we have access to the *LOVE, GRACE and FREEDOM* that are necessary in obeying the Commandments of God’ (cf. CCC, nn. 1963, 1985). Indeed, it is only a SINCERE obedience of the above Commandments that will surely lead us to the fulfillment we always desire.
We pray the Blessed Virgin Mary to always support us in our efforts towards obeying the Commandments of God. Amen.
Remain blessed๐๐ผ
