Dearest friends, the solemnity of the Most Sacred Heart of Jesus concretely draws our attention to the AMAZING LOVE of Jesus Christ for us all. It is a love that is so SINCERE, SACRIFICIAL and ALL-EMBRACING. Indeed, a MODEL of every true love.
This love of Jesus is symbolized with the heart that is crowned with THORNS. This symbol communicates a lot about this love of Jesus. Expressing the depth of this love, the Catechism affirms:
Jesus knew and LOVED us each and all during his life, his agony and his passion, and GAVE himself up for each one of us… For this reason, the Sacred Heart of Jesus, PIERCED by our SINS and for our salvation is quite rightly considered the chief sign and symbol of that love with which the divine Redeemer continually loves the eternal Father and all human beings without exception (CCC, n. 478).
Now that it is obvious how much the HEART of Jesus goes out to love us, how much effort do we, individually, make to RECIPROCATE this love? He does not demand much from us but just OBEDIENCE to Him. Thus he says: โIf you LOVE me, OBEY my Commandments” (Cf. Jn 14:15).
Again, does our love towards our neighbours really seek their SALVATION; after the example of Jesus’ love or does it seek only for MATERIAL GAIN and CARNAL GRATIFICATION? Indeed, any love of neighbour that does not tend towards the salvation of the soul is simply EXPLOITATION and should be eschewed henceforth. The love Jesus wants us to show to one another is expressed by Him thus: โLove one another as I have loved you” (Cf. Jn 13:34).
