As part of an increasing recognition of Africa’s vital role in the life of the global Church, Pope Leo XIV has appointed African clerics and religious to key positions within two important Vatican offices, the Dicastery for Institutes of Consecrated Life and Societies of Apostolic Life, and the Dicastery for Interreligious Dialogue.
The appointments, announced in Rome recently, reflect the Holy Father’s continued efforts to ensure regional representation and inclusivity within the Roman Curia, especially from continents experiencing rapid Church growth and vibrant spiritual dynamism.
To the Dicastery for Institutes of Consecrated Life and Societies of Apostolic Life are: His Eminence Cristóbal Cardinal, López Romero; His Grace Archbishop Jude Thaddaeus Ruwa’ichi; His Lordship Bishop,Thulani Victor Mbuyisa; His Lordship Auxiliary Bishop Tesfaye Tadesse Gebresilasie and Rev. Fr. Stanley Lubungo. While to the Dicastery for Interreligious Dialogue are: His Lordship, Bishop Sithembele Sipuka, His Lordship Bishop Ollo Modeste Kambou and His Lordship, Bishop Wilybard Lagho.
According to a press statement signed by the President of SECAM, Archbishop of Kinshasa Cardinal Fridolin Ambongo,”Your appointments are a source of pride and hope for the Church in Africa. In a time marked by both challenges and opportunities in the areas of consecrated life and interreligious engagement, your voices and perspectives will be of immense value. We are confident that you will bring to the Dicasteries deep spiritual insight, rooted in the African ecclesial and cultural context, in service to the People of God and the wider world.”
