Veritas University Celebrates 13th Convocation, Graduates 795 Students

The Catholic owned Veritas University, Abuja, on Saturday, 9 November 2024, held its 13th convocation ceremony, awarding various degrees to 795 students. The event, which took place at the university’s campus, was attended by dignitaries, faculty members, graduating supported by their family and friends.

Bishop Matthew Hassan Kukah, the Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the University’s Council, announced that 56 students graduated with first-class honours. The graduates comprised 716 undergraduates and 79 postgraduate students, including those who completed postgraduate diplomas, master’s degrees, and PhDs.

The ceremony began with a Holy Mass which was followed by a grand procession by the New Apostolic Nuncio to Nigeria, Most Rev. Michael Francis Crotty, the graduating students, College Deans, the Council, and the Vice Chancellor.

In his address, Bishop Hassan Kukah urged the graduates to uphold the values of integrity, hard work, compassion, and commitment instilled in them during their time at Veritas University.

On his part, the Vice-Chancellor, Rev. Fr. Professor Hyacinth Ichoku, expressed confidence in the graduates’ ability to navigate the challenges of the world, having been equipped with the necessary knowledge and skills acquired during their studies.

The university also conferred honorary degrees on four distinguished individuals: Archbishop Anthony Obinna, Archbishop Alaba Job, Engineer Kolawole Adesina, and His Royal Majesty, Professor Epiphany Asinge, the Asagba of Asaba, Delta State.

Veritas University was established in 2002 by the Catholic Bishops Conference of Nigeria.
