His name should be changed to Blessing because everything around him revolves round Blessing. These are the words of the Archbishop of Abuja Archdiocese when he glowingly made some beautiful remarks about the Cardinal celebrant of the day. He further said, the Cardinal doesn’t show that he’s carrying any burden on him as he looks after 40 years as a Bishop.
The event which started with a Holy Mass at Holy Trinity Catholic Church Maitama had a church parked full with so many people outside who could not gain entrance into the church.
The chief host, Archbishop Ignatius Kaigama led other Bishops to accompany the Cardinal at the Mass namely, Bishops Anselm Umoren, Matthew Hassan Kukah, Stephen Mamza, and Martin Olorunmolu, Auxiliary Bishop of Abuja, Sokoto, Yola and Lokoja respectively. The homily at the Mass of thanksgiving was delivered by Fr Prof Paulinus Odozor, CSSP, the first Priest to be ordained by John Onaiyekan shortly after he became a Bishop.
Many in the political class were at the Mass with numerous priests and religious from Parishes and dioceses.
The liturgical event was a top notch with every part well observed and carried by all the respective ministers.
After the post communion prayer the Archbishop of Abuja, Most Rev Ignatius Kaigama made some remarks, followed by a vote of thanks by the principal celebrant not forgetting anything, a detailed as he said “This vote of thanks will not be up to the time of the homily” that tells you how detailed it was.In his vote of thanks His Eminence expressed his readiness to meet his creator and said “mercy and grace from God summarised the 40 years of his Episcopal life.
Handel Messiah Alleluia Chorus was well taken by Holy Trinity choir and the Mass was finally concluded with special blessings.
The celebrant and the guests moved to the event centre of the Parish for the reception which was delivered by the committee in charge of the event led by Fr John Oluoma under the Episcopal supervision of Bishop Anselm Umoren MSP.
The day was indeed a great day for the Cardinal Archbishop emeritus.
