Upon the announcement of the creation of a new Diocese of Wukari by the Holy Father, Pope Francis, by December last year, the new Diocese of Wukari will on Thursday, 13th April 2023 witness her cononical erection as a suffragan Diocese and the installation of her first substantive Bishop, Msgr. Mark Maigida Nzukwein.
The Diocesan erection and the Episcopal installation which will be taking place at the GSS Ibi Road in Wukari, will be presided over by the Apostolic Nuncio to Nigeria His Grace Archbishop Antonio Filipazzi alongside the President of the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of Nigeria (CBCN), His Grace Archbishop Lucius Ugorji and other Archbishops, Bishops and Priests across the nation and beyond.
The erection of the new Diocese which signifies growth and expansion of the church in church, lays credence to the motto of the Bishop-elect Msgr. Mark Maigida Nzukwein; christus pax nostra – Christ our peace which is a prophesy of peace for the people of the crisis ridden part of Taraba State and the entire Northern Nigeria.
Wukari diocese was caved out of the Catholic Diocese of Jalingo, upon the Apostolic announcement by Pope Francis and made public by the Holy See Press office on Wednesday, December 14, 2022, making it suffragan of the Metropolitan See of Jos.
