YOU ARE ALSO CALLED

Rev. Fr. David Okolie

Dearest friends, it is almost a common notion among Christ’s faithful that when it comes to those CALLED, it has to do with only the priests, the religious and those who exercise special ministry in the Church. Hmmm! Dearest friends, it is far from that. You are also CALLED.

  • In case you do not know, once you are BAPTIZED, you are automatically CALLED and that is what is called: the Common Vocation of Christ’s faithful. Thus, the Catechism affirms:ย

BAPTISM, Confirmation, and Eucharist are sacraments of Christian initiation. They ground the COMMON VOCATION of all Christ’s disciples, a vocation to HOLINESS and to the MISSION of EVANGELIZING THE WORLD...”* (cf. CCC, n. 1533).

Have you seen that the priests and the religious are not the only persons CALLED to holiness of life and evangelization of the world? The question now is: What efforts have you been making to live up to the above demands of your CALLING? If you have long been shifting the whole thing to only the priests and the religious, today remains a perfect opportunity for you to assume your Christian RESPONSIBILITY. As you go about it, do not allow any form of *โ€˜AMAZIAH‘* or quest for earthly possessions to discourage or distract you (cf. Amos 7:12ff, Mk 6:7-13).

Finally, we must avoid destroying the mission Christ has entrusted to us through SCANDAL (cf Mt 18:6-9). Instead, we should always be bold to explain and defend our Catholic faith and our Christian convictions which are built on the teachings of Jesus Christ; in our work places, school environments and business areas (cf can. 225, 1Pt 3:15-16). As you and I go about this, we should not forget these words of Jesus Christ thus:

Whoever ACKNOWLEDGES me before men, I will also acknowledge him before my Father in heaven. But whoever DISOWNS me before men, I will disown him before my Father in heaven (cf. Mt 10:32-33).

May the Blessed Virgin Mary always support us with her powerful intercession. Amen๐Ÿ™๐Ÿผ

Happy Sunday and remain blessed!
