In a powerful address during a Parish visitation to St. Phillips Catholic Church Jattu-Uzairue on August 28, 2024, the Catholic Bishop of Katsina Diocese, Most Rev. Gerald Mamman Musa urged the congregation to deeply embody the Christian faith they profess, calling for a renewed commitment to the teachings of Christ in an ever-changing world.
During the homily at the Mass which was celebrted by the Archbishop of Lagos, Most Rev. Alfred Adewale Martins, Bishop Musa spoke passionately about the importance of living out the Christian faith in daily life. “In a world filled with distractions and challenges, it is crucial that we embrace the faith in Christianity we profess,” he declared.
“Our beliefs are not just words we recite on Sundays; they must guide our actions, our decisions, and our interactions with others.”
The Bishopโs message resonated with the attendees, many of whom have been grappling with the challenges of modern life. He emphasized that the strength of the Christian community lies in its ability to stand firm on its beliefs, despite societal pressures. “We are called not only to believe but to live as examples of Christโs love and mercy,” Bishop Gerald continued. “Our faith must be visible in our compassion, in our integrity, and in our unwavering commitment to the truth.”
The prelate also highlighted the importance of community and fellowship among believers. He encouraged the faithful to support one another in their spiritual journeys, especially in times of difficulty. “We are not alone in our walk with Christ. Let us be a source of strength and encouragement to one another, fostering a community rooted in love and mutual respect.”
The bishop’s address was part of a broader initiative by the diocese of Auchi, during the on going bishops’ Conference to strengthen the faith of its members and to encourage a more active and visible Christian presence in society.
As the Mass concluded, many parishioners expressed a renewed sense of purpose and a commitment to deepening their faith.
Bishop Geraldโs stirring call to action comes at a time when many in the Christian community are seeking ways to connect more meaningfully with their faith.
