Bishops arrive for the second 2023 CBCN plenary

Catholic Bishops across the country have arrived for the second 2023 Catholic Bishops Conference of Nigeria (CBCN) plenary assembly in Abuja Nigeria.

Speaking with CSN Media on his arrival, the Catholic Archbishop of Ibadan, Most Rev. Gabriel Abegunrin disclosed that the assembly will avail the Bishops an opportunity to discuss the church and also discuss the state of the nation, to lay bare their expectations from the government and also their contributions to the nation’s growth and development.

“We will call on the government to listen to the people, pay attention to the plights of the people instead of fighting for their selfish gains and ignoring the pains of the masses. If you look at the country now, most families can barely feed. The fuel crises, due to subsidy removal has brought about a hike in the cost of goods and services. So we will call the attention of the government to some of these social crises.”

On his part, the Catholic Bishop of Oyo Diocese, Most Rev. Emmanuel Badejo, added that the Bishops apart from discussing issues affecting the church and society, will also discuss widely on issues of faith and religion. He observed that there are a lot of issues today affecting faith and religion which needs the intervention of the Bishops.

Amongst other activities lined up for the weeklong conference, the Bishops will tomorrow, 8 September, 2023, be having a session with Major Superiors of Religious Congregations in Nigeria.
