In a significant development, the Holy Father, Pope Francis has appointed Msgr. Anselm Pendo Lawani as the Bishop-elect of the vacant see of Ilorin.
The appointment came exactly 23 months after the death of the 60-year old Most Rev. Paul Olawoore, who until his death was the local ordinary of the diocese of Ilorin from 2018 to 2022.
Msgr. Anselm Pendo Lawani, until his recent elevation to the Episcopal state, was the Diocesan Administrator of Ilorin. He was ordained as a priest on 15 August 2000 for the clergy of the Diocese of Ilorin.
The Bishop-elect was born on 12 September 1970 in Igarra, Edo State in Nigeria. After attending Saints Peter and Paul Major Seminary in Bodija, Ibadan, he earned his Master of Divinity degree from the University of Saint Mary of the Lake in Chicago, Illinois (U.S.A.).
