The fifth General Assembly of the Catholic Archdiocese of Abuja concluded with a passionate call from Archbishop Ignatius Ayau Kaigama for Catholics to uphold their faith and spirituality with unwavering pride.
Speaking during the November 30 closing Mass of the assembly, Archbishop Kaigama emphasized the importance of maintaining a strong Catholic identity in all aspects of life. “We cannot be part-time Christians or Sunday-only Catholics. We must live out our faith daily, with pride and dedication,” he urged.
The three-day assembly, which focused on the theme “Catholic Identity and Spirituality,” provided an opportunity for prayer, collaboration, and reflection among the clergy, religious, and laity across the expansive Archdiocese of Abuja, stretching from Bwari to Gwagwalada and Karu.
Highlighting the event’s spiritual significance, Archbishop Kaigama led the Consecration of the Archdiocese to the Immaculate Heart of Mary. “This act signifies our dedication to God’s purpose, opening us to His graces and blessings,” he explained.
The assembly also witnessed the ordination of 14 new Catholic priests. Archbishop Kaigama urged the newly ordained to embrace selflessness, humility, and total dedication to their priestly vocation, warning against the temptation to pursue private ministries. “A true Catholic Priest remains faithful to his calling and does not veer into other ministries,” he cautioned.
The Archbishop expressed optimism about the unity and renewed commitment demonstrated during the assembly, urging all faithful to let their Catholic identity shine as a beacon of God’s love and teachings. “We are a community guided by God’s Spirit, committed to deepening our faith and spreading His love in all we do,” he affirmed.
The assembly ended with a resounding call for Catholics to proudly embody their faith and spirituality, ensuring that the Catholic Church in Abuja remains a vibrant and united community dedicated to God’s mission.
