Rev. Sr. Graciela Sandoya, a dedicated missionary from the Congregation of the Daughters of the Blessed Virgin Mary, has been honored with the “Distinguished Mexican 2024 Award” for her exemplary service in Nigeria.
The award was presented by the Mexican Ambassador to Nigeria, Amb. Alfredo Miranda, during a ceremony on November 29, 2024.
Sr. Sandoya, who has served as a missionary for over 13 years, has worked tirelessly in Orlu and Gboko dioceses, focusing her efforts on the welfare of children and youth.
Her unwavering commitment to her calling has earned her admiration from the communities she serves, where she is affectionately regarded as one of their own.
The ceremony, held in Abuja, was attended by a host of dignitaries, including the Apostolic Nuncio to Nigeria, Most Rev. Michael Francis Crotty, Archbishop of Abuja, senior staff of the Catholic Secretariat of Nigeria, and the National Director of Pontifical Mission Societies, Rev. Fr. Solomon Patrick Zaku.
In his remarks, Amb. Miranda lauded Sr. Sandoya for her passion and love for the people of Nigeria, stating, “Her work exemplifies the true spirit of missionary service and cross-cultural solidarity.”
The event coincided with the feast of St. Francis Xavier, a patron of missions, inspiring reflections on the universal call to serve.
Attendees were encouraged to continue supporting and praying for missionaries worldwide.
Sr. Sandoyaโs recognition is a testament to her selfless service, and her story challenges others to embody missionary zeal wherever they find themselves.
