Orlu Diocese set to host 2022 second plenary of Catholic Bishops of Nigeria

The Catholic Diocese of Orlu in Owerri Ecclesiastical Province will be hosting the second 2022 plenary of the Catholic Bishops Conference of Nigeria (CBCN) from Thursday, September 8 to Friday, September 16, 2022.

It will be a week-long period of prayer, sharing, deep reflections and deliberations on issues concerning the Church and the society, at the end of which the Bishops will issue a communique. During the period also, the Bishops will meet with the Diocesan Priests Association and also hold an interactive session with some Catholics of Owerri Province.

The opening Mass for the programme will come up on Sunday, September 11, 2022 by 9:00am at Holy Trinity Cathedral, Orlu, and to be presided over by the CBCN President and Archbishop of Owerri, Most Rev. Lucius Iwejuru Ugorji, while the homily will be taken by the Bishop of Orlu Diocese, Most Rev. Augustine Ukwuoma.

Following the opening Mass, there will be an official opening session at Sacred Heart Pastoral/Retreat Centre, Orlu, which will commence with the rite of Enthronement of the Bible. Goodwill messages from the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Primate of the Church of Nigeria, Prelate of the Methodist Church, Governor of Imo State and the President of Nigeria are expected during the opening session.

To this end, preparations are in top gear both in Orlu Diocese and by the staff of the Catholic Secretariat of Nigeria, Abuja, the headquarters of the Church in Nigeria.
