Archbishop Ignatius Kaigama urged Nigerians to harness their religious riches to combat corruption and live out their faith authentically. In his homily for the second Sunday of Advent, he emphasized the need for collective action to eradicate corruption.
“We Nigerians, drawing from our religious riches must all endeavour to bring an end to corruption through our lifestyle, and impart the presence of God in whatever we do and everywhere we go.”
Archbishop Kaigama who presided at the Mass for the Church Dedication of the Church of the Archangels in Gaduwa, Abuja, stressed on the significance of the church building as a place of worship, unity and spiritual growth. Drawing from Scripture, he emphasized the importance of unity, prayer and service to others, citing the example of the Israelites rebuilding the Holy City and temple after exile.

Furthermore, the Prelate stressed that worship should be authentic and centered on God’s Word and the Eucharist. He cautioned against profaning the house of God by engaging in activities that distract from the sacred, quoting Jesus’ action in driving merchants from the temple.
The Chief Shepherd called for radical conversion and active commitment to the Catholic faith, citing John the Baptist’s call to prepare the way for the Lord. He noted that while material preparations for Christmas are necessary, true preparation involves removing obstacles to encountering Jesus Christ.
As part of his ongoing pastoral areas initiative, the homilist called on the faithful to sponsor land purchases and church construction in struggling pastoral areas.
“I ask all the faithful and people of goodwill in the Archdiocese to be sponsors in buying land for church purposes, and building of churches or parish houses for priests who serve the people in these pastoral areas.”
