In commemoration of the World Day of the Poor, Pope Francis will share a meal with over 1,300 disadvantaged individuals from Rome. This gesture by the Holy Father, is to continue a tradition he initiated in 2017.
The global event, which is in its eighth edition will begin with an Holy Mass in St. Peter’s Basilica to be presided over by Pope Francis, on Sunday, November 17, 2024. With the motto, “The prayer of the poor rises to God” (Sirach 21:5), underscores the Church’s commitment to advocating for justice and compassion.
Also, the Pope as part of the celebration, will bless 13 keys symbolizing the launch of the “13 Houses” project, aimed at providing shelter for the needy in 13 countries, including Syria. The activities will also feature various other charitable initiatives, such as covering utility bills for low-income families through parish connections.
