Indeed, we have a MORAL OBLIGATIONย to constantly present to the world the authentic teaching, so that having been well informed, they will make life choices in accordance with the mind of God for their temporal and eternal well-being.
Now, with so many waves of erroneous teachings in the world today (especially on the social media) many persons are really confused. However, to be on a safer side, always find out what is the teaching of the Scriptures and the Church (including the position of the saints) on any issue that you are confused about. Therefore, let us present the issue of birth control which has at its centre in our world today: CONTRACEPTIVES and ABORTION.
Marriage is not entirely all about SEX. Such conception of marriage is wrong and those who go into marriage with such error end up making themselves SEX OBJECTS/SLAVES and are also most likely to be UNFAITHFUL; because โthe love of HAVING increases by having.’ย It is also under such erroneous understanding of marriage that Contraceptives and Abortionย thrive.
Marriage is specifically geared towards โthe well-being of the spouses and the procreation and upbringing of children’ (Cf. Can. 1055, Gen 1:28, 2:18). This understanding of marriage places Companionship, (which is a necessary consequence of TRUE LOVE) above Sexual Exploitation. This companionship produces fruits (children) in due time, which is expected to be accepted with gratitude to God and then trained as God’s gifts. When these FRUITS are rejected either through CONTRACEPTIVES or ABORTION, it becomes Gravely SINFUL;ย (a sign of wickedness and ingratitude) before God.
Also, in line with Gen 38:8-10, the Church teaches that the conjugal act (i.e sex between husband and wife) is INSEPARABLY tied to conception/procreation, such that any effort to enjoy SEX and then INTENTIONALLY REJECT the fruit (conception) is GRAVELY SINFULย (Cf. Humanae vitae, nn. 11-12). Therefore, couples are encouraged to recourse to the Rhythm Method (i.e, when the wife is in her infertile period) if they must have sex without expecting a child because of some GENUINE reasons. Any other artificial method (like: contraceptives, withdrawal, pills, etc.) are gravely sinful. Couples are also encouraged to resort to other NOBLE intimate acts (without necessarily engaging in sex), especially when they do not expect a child or when spacing their birth.
The truth is that, while some couples are happily living out this teaching, others are still finding it difficult to live up to it. However, a daily sincere struggle is recommended for all.
๐๐ผ Those who still fall short are encouraged to always repent and go for Sacramental confession before receiving the Holy Communion.
๐๐ผFinally, those who have the responsibility of teaching young couples should remember that they have the OBLIGATION of teaching this TRUTHย and also helping them to live it out.
