It’s been a year since Bishop Gerald Musa was saddled with a new pastoral staff as the shepherd of the new Catholic Diocese of Katsina. The past 12 months have been characterised by unwavering dedication, unrelenting passion, and unconditional love for his new flock.
As he navigated the uncharted territories of his new diocese, Bishop Musa’s warmth, humility, and infectious smile quickly won the hearts of the faithful. His commitment to evangelization, pastoral care, and community development has been evident in his numerous visits to parishes, schools, hospitals, and rural communities in his episcopal jurisdiction and even beyond.
Under his leadership, the diocese has witnessed significant growth, with the ordination of five new priests recently, the historic feat recorded St. Joseph Mukasa Catechetical Training Centre (CTC) in Malumfashi, as they graduated and commissioned 45 catechists, and numerous other pastoral, spiritual and social programs springing up. Bishop Musa’s vision for a vibrant, dynamic, and inclusive diocese, where everyone feels valued, heard, and empowered, is slowly but surely taking shape.
As he disclosed to CSN Media at the first CBCN plenary this year, holistic evangelisation has been the vision of Bishop Musa for the new diocese under his pastoral care. His administrative focus in the last one year has been characterized by functional education and spiritual formation of the people of Katsina Diocese.
The Holy Father, Pope Francis, had on October 16, 2024, created a new diocese of Katsina and named the then Rev. Fr. Gerald Musa as the new bishop of the ecclesiastical see. With Bishop Musa at the helm, the Catholic Diocese of Katsina holds a very high prospect of continuous journey of growth in faith and evangelization.
