The Catholic Bishop of Ahiara Diocese, Most Rev. Simeon Nwobi, CMF, reminded newly ordained priests that the role of the priest is changing and they must adapt to the evolving needs of the church and society.
“You are being ordained at a time of great change and challenge for the church,” he said. “The world we live in is marked by rapid shifts in culture, technology, and social norms. While the role of the priest is evolving and the face of the priesthood is changing, it is essential that you remain anchored in the unchanging truths of our faith.”
In his homily at the ordination Mass of nine priests for the Diocese of Ahiara and two deacons for the Order of the Mother of God, held at the Mater Ecclesiae Cathedral, Ahiara, Mbaise, on Saturday, September 7, Bishop Nwobi emphasized the need for priests who are willing to sacrifice for the growth and progress of the diocese.
Bishop Nwobi cautioned the newly ordained clerics that the priesthood is not about personal enjoyment, pleasure, or self-gain, but about dying daily for the Lord. He encouraged them to be selfless, humble, and authentic spiritual leaders who will walk with the people in their joys and sorrows.
The bishop also advised the newly ordained clerics to utilize the challenges of modernity as opportunities to bring the light of Christ into new and unexpected places. He appealed to the family and friends of the newly ordained clerics to support them spiritually and materially, enabling them to fully dedicate their lives to the service of the church and humanity.
