WE ARE SUSTAINED BY SHARING

Rev. Fr. David Okolie

Dearest friends,

The whole of the Christian life finds meaning in the conscious understanding that whatever we have as individuals (Time, Treasure, and Talent) ought to be SHAREDย with others. This was the secret of the success of the early disciples of Jesus Christ (cf. Acts 2:44-45, 4:32).

The Church teaches that, as Christians, we must be ready to share what we have with others. The Catechism affirms:

Everything the true Christian has is to be regarded as a good possessed in common with everyone else. All Christians should be ready and eager to come to the help of the needy…and of their neighbors in want. A Christian is a steward of the Lord’s goods (cf. CCC, n. 952).

Well, for me, serious threats to this principle in the lives of many Christians today are SELFISHNESS and GREEDINESS. When we SHARE with others, our treasure, talent, time, etc., they MULTIPLY. However, when we selfishly keep them only for ourselves, they DETERIORATE.

Therefore, we must eschew selfishness and greediness and embrace true Christian charity and unity. This is the only way to make our lives worthy of emulation and qualify us to enter the Kingdom of God. Remember that the Last Judgment will be based on how we share what we have with others – “When I was hungry, you gave me food to eat…”ย (cf. Mt 25:31-46).

May the Blessed Virgin Mary always support us with her powerful intercession. Amen๐Ÿ™๐Ÿผ

Remain blessed!
