Rev. Fr. David Okolie
I suffered a serious heartbreak today as I was discussing with a friend who had just visited. Yes, I know that things have become overwhelmingly difficult in the country but I never knew that it has gotten to the point that this friend just revealed to me. Even, as I am typing this, my heart still aches with pain.
Well, as we were discussing how, unfortunately, the cost of living in the country has become clearly unaffordable for the masses, he told me how he went to the market and was told that a TUBER OF YAM now costs โฆ5,000 (Five THOUSAND Naira). When he said that to me, I was not really sure if I heard him clearly, I asked if he meant a tuber of yam and he said yes. To tell me the gravity of the whole thing, he went through his phone’s gallery and showed me a photo of the very size of the yam; because, he actually snapped it. Seeing the size of the yam broke my heart. I wonder how families of three, four, five or even six will survive this?
It is true that things are getting this worse, but the question is: ARE YOU CONTRIBUTING TO THIS HARDSHIP?ย When providing services or selling your goods, do you really work towards alleviating people’s pains or worsening it? Must you TRIPLE the profit you want to make from that your sells or the services you provide, even at the misery of others?
๐๐ผPlease, I beg you, I mean you that is reading this post, if you know how you can alleviate the burden of the current situation in the country, no matter how little, kindly do that. Before fixing prices of goods and services, think about the other person. Yes, you should make your profit but let your quest for profits not becloud your sense of HUMANITY and CHARITY.๐๐ผ
Please, try your best not to contribute to the cries of people during this heartbreaking time.
Remain blessed!๐๐ผ
